摘 要:
The development of innovative drug delivery strategies in support of effective, patient-oriented management of various disease states requires that conventional drug carriers must be modified to include additional modalities. Strategically, it is desired to have selective targeting capabilities, which improve the drug side effect profile, imaging capabilities that facilitate therapeutic monitoring by noninvasive technologies, “smart” release capabilities that maximize drug efficacy, and defined distribution properties facilitating transfer across biological membrane barriers. The presentation will highlight application of biological high-throughput technologies such as phage display to identify novel molecular signatures that enable effective transfer of nanocarriers across limiting biological barriers. In addition, we will illustrate the results of multidisciplinary collaborations between investigators at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering, Medicine, and Winkle College of Pharmacy to design and fabricate innovating, multifunctional nanocarriers for drug delivery applications. It is anticipated that this presentation will stimulate constructive follow-up discussions regarding future collaborations with scientists at Tongji University and within the extended Shanghai region focusing on drug delivery research.

个人简介:
Dr. Giovanni M. Pauletti is currently an Associate Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH (USA). Following completion of a MS in Pharmacy and a PhD in Biopharmaceutics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (Switzerland), he accepted a postdoctoral research position in peptide drug delivery in the laboratory of Dr. Ronald T. Borchardt at the University of Kansas. Dr. Pauletti has 16 years of expertise in pharmaceutical research focusing on the design and evaluation of novel drug delivery systems to improve therapeutic applications of small molecules, biotechnology and anticancer drugs. Results from this research have been published in more than 100 scientific abstracts and papers and contributed to one GenBank entry. In addition, Dr. Pauletti is an inventor on 12 U.S. patents and patent applications protecting various drug delivery technologies. Dr. Pauletti served on more than 45 MS/PhD committees and is engaged in the education of professional PharmD and MS/PhD students enrolled in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Engineering graduate programs. As an advisor to pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Pauletti continues to facilitate preclinical and early clinical development of different molecular entities relevant to women’s health and cancer therapy.
