Achievements in nano materials

After more than twenty years of study in nano materials, Professor Gu proposed a systematic process development methodology for large scale synthesis of nano particles. By applying interface chemistry in the surface coating of nano particles, Prof. Gu revealed a new contest mechanism for the homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation on the surface of nano materials. He proposed for the first time the criteria for the syntheses of solid spherical particles during spray pyrolysis process. The above research results were successfully adopted in magnetic recording and titanium dioxide industries.

From 2000, Dr. Gu focused his research on the dispersion of functional nano particles in polymer matrix and bio and clinical application of nano particles. The novel dispersion process proposed by his group successfully solved the difficult uniform dispersion problem in almost all such cases.  With profound knowledge about nano particles, Dr. Gu’s group has made great contribution to synsthesizing superparamanetic nano particles and bio-med applications, such as bio molecular manipulation, hyperthermia and diagnostics.

For his outstanding research works, Dr.Gu has been awarded many prizes, incuding Premier Outstanding Scientist Prize,the First class Innovation Prize issued by Shanghai Government, Outstanding Trans-century Young Scientist Prize, etc. The results of his research have appeared in over 150 publications and 50 talks throughout the world.

Dr. Gu is now among the nine committee members for Chinese High Tech Programs of Nano Materials, the ten committee members for Chinese High Tech Programs of functional Materials, and also the president of Shanghai Society of Particle Technology.
