BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Based on selecting the appropriate type of quantum dots (QDs), Prof. Chang developed a novel method to enhance quantum yield of silica-coated quantum dots for biodetection. In addition, he studied on the facile fabrication of multi-colors high Fluorescent/superparamagnetic nanoparticles and developed a novel method to make hydrophilic quantum dots and applied them on the liquid biochips for the tumor markers’ detection.
In addition, Dr. Chang developed novel brain-targeting gene delivery system by natural magnetic nanoparticles. In this study, he designed and constructed a novel gene delivery systems by modified the magnetosome with dendrimers and Tat peptides for the first time. The biodistribution in vivo demonstrated that Tat-MS-PAMAM could efficiently cross the BBB and assemble at brain tissue of rats detected by SPECT. The anti-tumor effect of psiRNA-EGFR delivered via Tat-MS-PAMAM was enhanced both in human glioblastoma U251-MG cells and in nude mice models of Gliomas.
Furthermore, Dr. Chang developed a novel multifunctional cationic polymeric liposomes formed from Chitosan derivertive/cholesterol. Compared to traditional liposomes, this polymeric liposomes have many excellent features, such as good physical and thermal stability, excellent solubility in both water and organic solution, and high effectiveness in drug encapsulation. This polymeric liposome has been assembled layer by layer for the multi-functional drug/gene delivery system for the therapy of Epilepsy and repairing the spinal cord injury by penetrating BBB and blood- spinal cord barrier. 
For his outstanding research works, Dr. Chang has been awarded many prizes, including Excellent Oversea Scientist from Tianjin Municipal Government, Nature Science Award from Tianjin Science and Technology Committee, Whitaker Award” from Particles 2002 , USA, Outstanding Researcher Awards from China Scholarship Council, etc. Dr. Chang has more than 120 journal publications in peer reviewed journals, 2 book chapters, and 30 conference abstracts. He is the holder of 10 Chinese patents. He has completed more than 20 scientific programs and is currently responsible for more than 10 research projects.
