New Interfacial Nanochemistry for Renewable Energy and Healthcare

摘要
Tian’s lab has been focusing on expanding nanochemistry toolbox with new interfacial sciences for developing smart biomaterials in translational and personalized nanomedicine, and energy nanoscience as well. In this direction, this lab has so far learned how to construct symmetrical 3D crystalline heterostructures out of simple microrods, via mimicking organic total synthesis in nanochemistry, for developing biodegradable nanorobots. In parallel, his lab has created TiO2-, TiN, and graphene-based nanobelts for developing smart 3D bioscaffolds in, e.g. spinal-cord repairing, biosensors, stents, bone-implant, etc. In both basic and applied energy nanochemistry, his lab has been involved in developing new materials science in solar-cell, rechargeable battery, fuel-cell, water-splitting photocatalyst, nanolasing, etc.
个人简介
Dr. Tian got his BS in Chemistry (Catalysis) from Fudan University, and Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry (besides all coursework in Chemical Engineering M.S. Program) from the University of Connecticut on developing layered/microporous/mesoporous catalytic materials. He got postdoc trainings in the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department at the University of California at Davis, and then the Nanomaterials Synthesis and Interfacial Science Departments at the DOE Sandia National Lab (Albuquerque, NM). He joined the University of Arkansas in 2004, and is an Associate Professor in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Institute of Nanoscience and Engineering (one of the 4 cofounders), Microelectronics/Photonics, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (Adjunct). He got numerous awards both on campus and in the nation, brought in ~$2M of research grants to his lab and helped bring in >$40M to the campus. His labs in three separate buildings are equipped with SEM, XRD, TEM (shared with another lab), electrochemical workstation, battery tester, BET, optical bio/nano-imaging system, glove-box, etc. He has published > 40 papers (citations ~2500, h-factor = 19) in journals such as Science, Nature Materials, Angew Chem, JACS, Nano Lett., etc., and served in university/state/national committees and initiatives. He cofounded ASNM (with ~30 people), and was one of the two confounders (and associate editor) for the J. Nanotech for Med and Engr under the ASME. He has been collaborating with leading labs at FDA-NCTR, DOE National Labs, Georgia-Tech, UC-Berkeley, Cornell University, Columbia University, NASA-Ames, Air Force, UAMS, Medical Schools at Uppsala University (Sweden), St Andrew’s University (UK), Kitasato University (Japan), Nanjing University (China), and consulting for some World Fortune 500 companies.
