Reporter: Prof. Wei Shen (美国明尼苏达大学)

Date&Time: 2015年7月2日(星期四)下午14:00—15: 00
Location: 同济大学医学院纳米院219会议室(南校区高等技术学院大楼纳米院219室)
Reportor Introduction:
Prof. Wei Shen received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the East China University of Science & Technology in 1992 and 1995, respectively. She received her PhD degree in Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology in 2005. She conducted her postdoctoral study in the division of biology at the California Institute of Technology between 2005 and 2006. She joined the faculty of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota in the summer of 2006 and was awarded tenure in 2012. Prof. Shen has won NSF Career Award, Coulter Foundation Early Career Award, and Frontiers in Bioengineering Young Investigator Award. Her research area is biomaterials engineering, cell-microenvironment interactions, and tissue engineering.

We combine materials science, engineering fundamentals, and life science to design and develop enabling methods to address challenges in biomedical fields such as tissue engineering and cell-based therapy, with an ultimate goal to improve human health. We have focused on designing, synthesizing, and processing biomaterials with an emphasis on using biomimetic strategies and harnessing self-assembly of intelligent biopolymers to control engineered cell microenvironments, which have applications in guiding stem cell fate selection, producing tissue products, and dissecting the fundamentals in developmental biology. Several examples will be presented in this talk.
