Applications of Nanoparticles in Biomedical Imaging and Rapid Colorimetric Detection of Ions for Environmental Analysis

Part I: Theranostic agents based on metal oxides nanoparticles at NIMTE Nanoparticle materials with modification are good for serving as shuttles of drug delivery and contrast agents in different biomedical imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound tomography, positron emission tomography (PET), and optical imaging based on their special properties in magnetism, acoustics, optics, and electrics. Here we will show nanoparticle materials of Gd2O3, Fe3O4, or TiO2 and their composites acting as shuttles of drug delivery and contrast agents in MRI for cancer.
Part II: Rapid colorimetric detection agents based on noble metal nanoparticles Recently, a number of colorimetric assay methods for metal ions and small molecules based on gold and silver nanoparticles have been reported due to their extremely high coefficients and strongly distance dependent on optical properties. At NIMTE, we are developing a rapid colorimetric detection method based on noble metal nanoparticles, this method may detect out some metal ions very quickly. Up to now, some work were done about mercury, lead, cobalt, cadmium, copper, nickel, and chromium so on in aqueous solutions. Some new progress will be shown in this presentation.
